Biofuel Refineries caught up with one of their best customers, Midas Productions – specialists in Remote Power Solutions – to review the Summer Season, and look ahead to the rest of the 2014.
What were the highlights of the Summer?
Well, the Summer Festival season essentially runs from May all the way through to September.
The Norwich Arts Festival is one of our first big outdoor events, and with us being based just over the border in Suffolk, we like to think of it as the ‘local do’ which kicks off our season.
Lasting for most of May, with an ambitious Outdoor programme including circus aerialists, multi-media projections, and the usual diverse array of music performances, this demands all of our expertise, and is a great way to get the Festival season underway.
Bestival is always a highlight for us towards the end of the season in September – it’s one of the biggest outdoor events of the year with over 50,000 people attending, it’s diverse, and it’s located in beautiful surroundings on the Isle of Wight.
This does give rise to specific challenges – getting all the necessary equipment over to the island, managing all the power requirements for different outdoor locations (over 20km of festoon lighting alone was required!), plus the vagaries of the English summer….but we do love a challenge here at Midas!
What about forthcoming events for the rest of 2014?
We’re currently undertaking a lot of work at the Olympic Village for various conferences and events, and this is set to culminate at the end of the year in the Velodrome, when GB will take on the rest of the world’s cycling starts at the 2014/15 UCI Track Cycling World Cup.
There are also numerous Christmas Markets which we’ll be involved with – one of my personal favourites is the Winchester Christmas Market, which is now recognised as one of the best in Europe, thanks to its unique location around Winchester Cathedral.
This is a significant undertaking for us, providing remote power solutions for the entire market (over 350,000 visitors attended last year), plus the small matter of an open-air ice rink.
So all in all, we’ve got our hands full for the rest of 2014, and it’s great that we can supply all this power in such an environmentally-friendly fashion, for which we thank all our suppliers.
